Five blankets have been assembled from the squares sent in as a tribute to Kerstin's brother-in-law. They are quite striking.
I recently ordered (another) book from Schoolhouse Press, Knitting with a Smile: A Knitting Sketchbook (scroll down), by Inger Fredholm. The last chapter has pictures of 2,000 afghans made out of knitted squares for a refugee camp. School children in Sweden knitted the squares in the late 1980s.

Hi Kerstin. I was very impressed by the spirit of the project (as well as by the blankets themselves). Annie did a great job of organizing it and recognizing everyone who participated.
